Serving Children…Serving our Community…Serving the Future
The Children’s Services department focuses on support for children and their families. This includes early intervention therapies through the Indiana’s First Steps system. The Therapists at Sycamore Services utilize individualized strategies to assist children at risk of having, or already diagnosed as having, developmental delays with a goal of helping each child reach his or her full potential. First Steps therapies are designed to reduce a child’s need for intervention later on and improve their opportunities for success in school and in life.
First Steps services are available to children from birth to age 3. For children to be eligible for First Steps, those children should fall into one of these three categories:
- The child is experiencing a developmental delay
- The child has a diagnosed condition that has a probability of resulting in a developmental delay
- The child is at risk of developing a delay if early intervention services are not provided.
Children may be referred to the System Point of Entry from their doctor, hospital staff, other social service agencies, or by the parent. To make a referral anyone can call 317.257.2229.
Other therapies and innovative approaches to improve development issues can be provided in the child’s home or other appropriate location. Contact our Children’s Services Division at (317) 745-7503 for questions or to enroll your son or daughter for any of the following therapies:
- Speech Language Pathology
- Physical Therapy
- Developmental Therapy
- Occupational Therapy
Therapists meet with the family and their service coordinator, to review the child’s service plan every six months to confirm that quality therapies are provided and appropriate interventions are being followed. Our therapists continue to educate themselves and improve their ability to meet the needs of every child. Individualized Family Service Plans are based on each child’s current developmental needs, no two therapy plans are the same.
Cornerstone Pediatric Rehab Services – Beyond First Steps
Cornerstone Pediatric Rehabilitation Services was created by Sycamore Services to extend our First Steps programs and enable families with children older than age three to receive evaluative and ongoing services.
Cornerstone uses innovative techniques to address areas of concern, other than developmental issues.
