DAY PROGRAMS

Day programs provide individuals with disabilities meaningful activities that produce educational, recreational and rehabilitative benefits.  Frequent contacts are made to our offices inquiring about available day programs.  In the last two years Sycamore added two new programs to the two already existing.

Partners for Progress – In a coordinated effort with St. Vincent New Hope, Sycamore initiated a program to provide meaningful day activities for persons living in St. Vincent New Hope residences.  This coordination is what gave the program its name – Partners for Progress.  Located on the north side of Indianapolis, Partners reported an average of 43 people attending each day in 2008.

PALS – Participating in Activities for Livelong Success is our longest running day program.  PALS is located in our Morgan County Office in Martinsville and has an enrollment of 35 people.  Daily attendance varies due to work schedules and the type of activities planned for the day.

STEPS – Initiated in December of 2007, STEPS – Support, Training and Education for Personal Success – began with a handful of individuals who expressed a desire to participate in some type of social interactions through the day.  STEPS activities are designed to improve academics, teach health and safety and provide various recreational/therapeutic activities that will benefit those enrolled.  STEPS has an average daily attendance of 12, though others in the Danville Work Center often participate in scheduled activities.

Indy South – Sycamore’s newest program provides day service alternatives to persons on the South and East sides of Indianapolis.  With a sister program on the on the North side of Indianapolis, Indy South participants initiated a pen-pal program in 2008.  Participants are assisted to write letters and bring pictures that are shared with a pen-pal at Partners.  Participants are developing new found friendships through the mail.

Sycamore developed focus groups in 2008 and personnel in the Day Service Group made efforts to assure that services and expected outcomes are consistent across the agency.  Program curriculums are designed to improve academic and social skills while promoting self sufficiency.
