Sycamore Services has received assistance this year from generous donations and grants that have helped us face the challenges of COVID-19 head on. The Central Indiana COVID-19 Community Economic Relief Fund (C-CERF) has provided Sycamore Services with funds to ensure that many basic living needs are being provided for individuals served. C-CERF is a community fund established by founding partners Lilly Endowment, Inc., Central Indiana Community Foundation, Eli Lilly and Company Foundation, Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust, Richard M. Fairbanks Foundation and United Way of Central Indiana to support human services organizations and the individuals and families they serve who are affected directly and indirectly by the COVID-19 coronavirus crisis.
As an essential human services provider in our community, Sycamore Services is still providing services throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, including in-home care. The individuals we serve depend on us every day, and we are doing everything in our power to provide safe, outstanding care without interruption.
The safety of our staff is also critical at a time like this and we have invested in medical-grade Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for residential staff who will need an extra layer of protection when/if an individual served develops symptoms of the virus. When they need us most, we will be there in sickness and in health to care for the individuals we serve.
Sycamore Services is also investing in better tools to allow us some social distancing, to provide certain services virtually using phones, tablets, and personal computers. Dynamic virtual services are temporarily being used for Recreational Therapy, Children’s Services, Behavior Management, Counseling, and Employment Services so individuals can still access these services while safely isolated at home.
Although these investments were not part of our original budget, they have become necessary expenses for us to continue daily services under current pandemic conditions.
On March 27, in response to the COVID-19 crisis, the CARES Act (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act) was enacted to provide relief to individuals and businesses. This stimulus package temporarily lifts the limit on tax deductions for cash contributions to nonprofit organizations, like Sycamore Services, from 60% of adjusted gross income to 100% for individual taxpayers, and from 10% to 25% of taxable income for corporations. Another benefit of the CARES Act is that individuals who choose not to itemize their deductions can now claim an above-the-line deduction of up to $300 of cash contributions to nonprofit organizations.
Not only can your donation to Sycamore Services come with tax benefits for you, it helps us overcome the immense challenges of continuing services during these unprecedented times. Many of the individuals we serve depend on our supports daily to complete fundamental activities in their home, such as preparing meals, cleaning, medication administration, personal hygiene and more. They depend on us to help them learn coping mechanisms for improved behaviors, and assistance replacing jobs that have been lost in the recent economic downturn. The health and wellbeing of these individuals is in our hands, and we depend on the generosity of people like you to continue providing meaningful services that directly impact their quality of life.
Friends, a caring family, a good job, respect, personal growth, choices, challenges, dignity, belonging and having fun. These are characteristics of “the good life.”
Individuals with disabilities are able to experience the good life by working toward their personal goals with help from their families, friends, neighbors, area businesses and Sycamore Services, Inc.
With the active involvement of our entire community, Together We Can touch many lives. By volunteering, donating or supporting special events at Sycamore Services, you can help ensure that individuals with special needs have opportunities to reach their goals.

By supporting Sycamore Services, you can also help individuals experience the joy of volunteering in the community, accessing safe and reliable transportation, or receiving assistance in their home. Your donation can be made to our general fund, or designated for a specific purpose.
