New Resources for Medicaid Waiver Level of Care Appeals
The Arc of Indiana has released new resources to help individuals and families navigate Medicaid Waiver Level of Care denials and the appeals process. The guides explain what to expect, important deadlines, documentation, and steps to prepare for an appeal.
The Arc is also hosting an Ask The Arc webinar on September 9 focused on appealing Level of Care denials.
If you or someone you support has received a denial, these resources can help you better understand your options and next steps.
Self-Advocates State Picnic Coming Up
The Self-Advocates State Picnic is coming up September 12 at Hummel Park in Plainfield, IN!

Sycamore Services Actively Seeking New Team Members
As Sycamore Services continues to grow and expand our programs, we're looking for compassionate, dedicated individuals to join our team. With increasing demand for services across Indiana, we're adding new team members to help ensure individuals and families continue receiving the high-quality, person-centered support they deserve.
We're currently hiring for a variety of positions, including Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Recreational Therapists, Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs), and many other roles across our organization. Whether you have years of experience or are looking to begin a rewarding new career, we offer opportunities to make a meaningful difference every day.

Sycamore Takes on Colts Training Camp
This preseason, some of our Sycamore Services participants and team members had the opportunity to visit Indianapolis Colts Training Camp—and what a day it was!
From meeting players and getting autographs to collecting Colts freebies and watching the team prepare for the season, everyone had a chance to enjoy the excitement of training camp.
It was a memorable experience filled with fun, connection, and plenty of Colts spirit. We’re grateful for opportunities like this that bring people together and create lasting memories.

Is It Time to Consider Residential Supports?
As your loved one grows and their goals change, you may find yourself wondering if residential supports could be the right next step.
Residential services can provide individualized support while giving people opportunities to build greater independence, develop routines, participate in their communities, and make choices about their everyday lives.
If your loved one is already receiving services through Sycamore, you may already have a team who understands their strengths, preferences, and goals. That can make exploring residential supports a natural next conversation.
We Currently Have Space Available
Sycamore Services currently has residential openings available for individuals who may benefit from additional support in a residential setting.
If you've been thinking, “Could residential be right for them?” this may be a good time to explore your options.
There’s no commitment required to start the conversation. Our team can help answer your questions, discuss available opportunities, and help you determine whether residential supports could be a good fit for your loved one.

Navigating Change Together
The disability services landscape across Indiana continues to evolve, and Sycamore Services remains committed to helping individuals, families, and guardians navigate those changes with confidence.
While there are many developments affecting disability services, healthcare, and Medicaid-funded supports, our commitment remains the same: providing quality services, advocating for individuals with disabilities, and ensuring families have access to information and resources they need.
Important Information About InterRAI Assessments
Earlier this year, Indiana began implementing the InterRAI assessment process to help determine waiver eligibility and level of care needs.
As the year has progressed, providers and families have begun receiving decisions resulting from these assessments, including denials and adverse eligibility determinations in some cases. The InterRAI assessment process may affect waiver eligibility and level of care determinations.
For that reason, we encourage all families and guardians to closely monitor communications received from the State.
If you receive a notice related to:
Waiver eligibility
Level of care determinations
InterRAI assessment outcomes
Service eligibility decisions
please review it immediately and contact your Case Manager if you have questions.
Appeal timelines can be limited and may require prompt action. Sycamore's internal review process identifies appeal rights as time-sensitive and notes the importance of responding quickly.
Importantly, services may continue during the appeal process, making timely action especially important.
If your family receives a notice and needs assistance understanding the process, please reach out to your support team. While we cannot provide legal advice, we can help connect families with information and resources.
Advocating Alongside Families
Sycamore's leadership team remains actively engaged in statewide discussions regarding disability services, waiver systems, healthcare access, and long-term support needs.
We continue to work closely with advocacy organizations, provider associations, community partners, and fellow providers to elevate concerns, share information, and advocate for people with disabilities and their families.
Our goal is to ensure that individuals receiving services have strong representation as important decisions are made across Indiana.

Strong services require strong people.
In addition to our ongoing advocacy work, Sycamore continues investing in employee development, retention, leadership growth, workplace culture, and organizational excellence to ensure we can continue attracting and retaining talented professionals who support individuals and families.
We are also engaged in an organizational culture initiative with ADVISA that will help us identify our strengths, gather employee feedback, and continue building the type of organization that employees, families, and community partners are proud to be part of.
