- Celebrating Women’s History Month with Words of Advice
It’s women’s history month and Sycamore Services is fortunate to have an army of talented women working for the organization in roles from entry level to senior management. To celebrate them and all their accomplishments, we asked a few of them what advice they might give their younger selves. Here’s what they had to say: TAMMY GRAHAM | WORK EXPERIENCE ASSISTANT/DSP | DANVILLE HQ “Don’t let imagined or real embarrassment stop you from trying and trying again. You are enough to do anything.Keep reading everything – it is a lifelong passion.” JENNIFER SHARABA | HUMAN RESOURCES & QA DIRECTOR | DANVILLE HQ “Slow Down. Be Present.” WENDY BUDDE | CFO | DANVILLE HQ “Whether personal or professional, set goals and work toward them…one little step at a time. Just keep pushing forward and making progress.” CAROL CALDWELL | ADMIN ASSISTANT – RESIDENTIAL | DANVILLE ANNEX “I would tell my younger self to go after her dreams. Don’t let anyone or anything hold her back. Her life belongs to her.” LADONNA EVERROAD | COO | DANVILLE HQ “Don’t be afraid to fail. Failure is how you learn, which leads to success.Listen to understand, not to respond. This is how you show you care, can work towards a common goal, and learn and grow as a person.Have the courage to listen to your instincts. Your “gut” is right more often than you would think.Build a network of people around you that are the “experts” in the things you don’t know how to do or do not excel at doing. Being a team is how you will make a positive impact.Be open to change. Change is inevitable and you need to be a part of the solution not the problem.” STACIE WARE | OPERATIONS SUPPORT ADMINISTRATOR | DANVILLE HQ “I would tell my younger self that it is ok to ask for help sometimes. Asking for help is not a sign of weakness and doesn’t mean you aren’t capable. It actually shows that you are confident enough to recognize when you need a hand. I have always taken pride in being a strong and independent person but didn’t always take the time to ask for help when maybe I should have. I would also remind myself more to be kind. Always. Everyone gets busy and, in a hurry, and they forget to be kind. Kindness goes a long way and only takes a second.”
- Welcome to September: Focus on Independent Living for All
As we step into September, a month filled with new beginnings and opportunities, Sycamore Services is renewing our dedication to a mission that lies at the heart of everything we do—promoting independent living for all. This month, we are shining a spotlight on how our programs and services empower individuals to achieve the highest level of independence possible, allowing them to live fulfilling, self-directed lives. The Sycamore Services Approach to Independent Living At Sycamore Services, we believe that independent living is a right everyone should have access to, regardless of their abilities or challenges. It’s about providing the tools, resources, and support systems that enable individuals to make their own choices, control their own lives, and fully participate in their communities. Our approach is holistic and personalized. We understand that each person’s path to independence is unique, which is why we offer a diverse range of services designed to meet the specific needs of those we serve. Whether it’s through our residential living options, day services, or community integration programs, Sycamore Services is committed to helping each individual live life on their own terms. Residential Living: A Foundation for Independence One of the key ways we support independent living is through our residential services. Sycamore Services provides various living arrangements that offer the right balance of support and autonomy. From individualized support in personal homes to more structured environments, our residential programs are designed to help individuals thrive in settings that best suit their needs. For example, our supported living program offers the assistance needed for individuals to live independently in their own homes or apartments, while still having access to the help they need with daily tasks, such as cooking, cleaning, and budgeting. This tailored approach ensures that each person can live as independently as possible, with the confidence that support is available whenever it’s needed. Day Services: Building Skills for Independent Living Sycamore Services also offers a range of day services aimed at equipping individuals with the skills they need to live independently. Our programs focus on developing practical life skills, such as money management, cooking, and personal care, as well as fostering social connections and community involvement. These services are more than just skill-building; they are about empowering individuals to take control of their lives and make meaningful contributions to their communities. We believe that everyone has the potential to grow and achieve their goals, and our day services provide the support and encouragement needed to make that happen. Success Stories: Celebrating Independence This September, we are also celebrating the successes of those who have embraced independent living with the support of Sycamore Services. Their stories are a source of inspiration and a testament to the impact of our programs. Take John, for instance, who recently transitioned from a group home to his own apartment with the help of our supported living program. With the right guidance and support, John has not only maintained his apartment but has also taken on new responsibilities, like managing his budget and engaging with his neighbors. His journey reflects the core of our mission—helping individuals live independently and confidently. Join Us in Making a Difference As we look ahead to the rest of September and beyond, Sycamore Services remains steadfast in our commitment to fostering independent living for all. We invite you to join us in this mission. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply spreading the word about our services, your support can make a significant difference in the lives of those striving for independence. Let’s make this September a month of empowerment, growth, and new possibilities for everyone in our community. Together, we can create a world where independent living is not just a goal but a reality for all.
